The DeWise Foundation has secured a significant boost in its mission to close healthcare gaps across Cameroon, after receiving a 17 million XAF ($30,000) grant from the globally recognised Youth4Climate Initiative. The award positions the organization among the top 50 innovators selected from more than 2,600 global applicants, an achievement widely celebrated by local and international partners.
The funding injection will accelerate the rollout of WiseCool, a homegrown innovation designed to tackle some of the most persistent challenges faced by underserved and off-grid communities in Cameroon.
What WiseCool Brings to Cameroon
At its core, the WiseCool project combines climate technology, healthcare innovation, and youth empowerment. Its vision revolves around three essential pillars:
- Sustainable cold storage systems that preserve vaccines and medical supplies in remote, off-grid communities, which help reduce wastage and ensure reliable immunisation coverage.
- A telemedicine platform that connects individuals in rural areas to qualified health professionals without requiring long-distance travel.
- Training programs for young people in CleanTech and HealthTech, building a future-ready generation capable of designing and deploying local solutions.
With healthcare infrastructure still unevenly distributed across Cameroon, the WiseCool initiative could play an important role in improving access to modern, reliable, and climate-resilient health services.
A Win for Community Health and Youth Innovation
The Youth4Climate grant, backed by the UNDP Rome Centre and Italy’s Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, signals growing international confidence in Cameroon’s emerging ecosystem of social innovators.
For DeWise Foundation, the support represents more than just financial assistance. It is, as the organization stated in its announcement, “a launchpad for healthier communities and a more equitable future.”
