African Women In Tech Startups (AfricanWITS) has launched a call for applications for the Hackathon Girls in ICT Day 2022 program in celebration of the International Girls in ICT Day 2022.
The hackathon, scheduled to hold from April 28 to 30, 2022, promises to inspire girls to develop the spirit of entrepreneurship and problem-solving. The program will run a series of activities including job fairs, workshops, and hackathons with young girls from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.

Built for secondary schools and universities in Yaoundé, Douala, Limbe, Buea, and Ngaoundéré, the hackathon will see young girls compete in teams of between 3 to 5 for 24 hours to propose ideas for solutions around Cybersecurity, Cyberbullying and Youth Cyber Violence in School, and Fact-checking).
This year, the theme, “Access and Safety,” was selected due to the discouraging and dangerous obstacles girls can sometimes face in the digital environment.
The winning team will be awarded during the closing ceremony on April 30, 2022.

African Women In Tech Startups (AfricanWITS) is a female tech hub that aims to boost entrepreneurship and promote access to technology opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa for women, youths, and community projects.
Since 2019, African WITS has joined the global movement to celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day in Cameroon with girls in secondary schools and universities to commemorate this day.
For the 2022 edition, the event will take place in Cameroon with physical activities to impact more than 1000 girls between the ages of 10 and 25 in STEM.
